Privacy Policy
Last updated: 9 September 2026
This policy describes precisely what HomEvidence does with your data. We would rather be exact than reassuring, so where something leaves your phone, we say so.
The short version
- Your inventory — names, values, notes and your photo library — is stored locally on your phone and is not uploaded unless you turn on cloud backup, which is off by default.
- When you scan an item, that one photo is sent to our identification service to be recognised. It is processed and discarded — not stored, and not used to train any model. Nothing else goes with it.
- Identification is metered, so an anonymous account is created for it in the background. It holds no personal details: no email, no name, no phone number.
- If you turn on backup, your inventory syncs to a private account only you can read. Photos are stored in a private bucket that is never public. Turning backup off stops all uploads.
- No advertising. Analytics on this website are opt-in and off by default; the app contains no analytics of any kind.
What is stored on your device
Your entire inventory lives in on-device storage: item names, categories, brands, models, serial numbers, conditions, purchase dates and prices, estimated values, currencies, warranty dates, lending records, tags, notes and photographs. Every screen of the app reads from this local store, which is why the app works without a connection.
What leaves your device, and when
Identification. When you photograph an item or a receipt, that single image is sent over an encrypted connection to our identification service, processed, and discarded. We do not retain the image, and we do not use it to train models. No item names, values, notes or other inventory data accompany it. A failed identification returns an error — the app never invents a result.
The anonymous account. To meter identification, the app creates an anonymous account in the background. It contains no personal details and exists only to count usage.
Cloud backup (optional). If you enable backup, your inventory — including photos — is synced over an encrypted connection to a private account accessible only to you. Photos are stored in a private bucket that is never publicly addressable. Disabling backup stops all further uploads.
What we never do
- We do not sell or share your data with advertisers or data brokers.
- We do not embed third-party advertising or tracking SDKs.
- We do not use your photos or inventory to train machine-learning models.
- We do not collect analytics unless you explicitly opt in.
Analytics on this website
This website loads Google Analytics only if you accept the analytics notice. When you accept, Google receives an anonymised IP address, the pages you view and basic device information, so we can see which pages are read. If you decline — or choose nothing — no analytics load and nothing is collected. The HomEvidence app itself contains no analytics.
Your choices and your data
You can export your complete inventory as CSV at any time, free. You can delete any item, photo or receipt, or the entire inventory, from within the app; deletions of local data are immediate. If you use cloud backup and would like your synced copy removed, contact us and we will delete it.
Data security
All network traffic is encrypted in transit. Synced data is stored in private, access-controlled storage. Because the anonymous account holds no personal details, there is no profile of you to breach.
Children
HomEvidence is not directed at children under 13 and does not knowingly collect their data.
Changes to this policy
If this policy changes, the updated version will be posted at this address with a new date. Material changes will also be noted in the app.
